Wandering Trader

Trading with the Wandering Trader in Minecraft
The Wandering Trader can be found in any Minecraft biome. It appears with a certain chance, 20 minutes after the world was created. At night it drinks a potion of invisibility to avoid being attacked by hostile mobs, and the potion's effect wears off during the day. This trader offers a wide assortment of items from different biomes, and is always accompanied by decorated llamas.

Trading

All villager trades in Minecraft 1.14
Trading has been completely reworked: villagers now have many more professions, and the old ones have been updated. The trading interface has been updated, and the variety of goods has increased too. Now only villagers with a profession, and wandering traders, can trade.

A given type of villager sells or buys goods according to their profession, which is determined by the villager's workstation. There are 13 professions in total, all shown in the screenshot above. Villagers will initially have two available trades that let you earn an emerald or buy something with one. By trading with a villager, the player can unlock new offers and gain experience; however, if a certain offer has been used more than once, it may become available again after some time, provided the villager has access to a workstation.

Economy

Villagers can change the prices of their goods depending on various factors. For example, if the player cures a zombie villager, they get a discount on goods. This trick can be repeated an unlimited number of times. A villager can also raise a price if the player hits them. In addition, a villager may raise the price of a particular good if it's bought frequently. However, over time the discount on a good resets if the player stops buying it. Prices update when a villager interacts with its workstation, which happens twice a day.

Pillager Outpost

Pillager Outpost in Minecraft 1.14.png
A new structure that's home to a new hostile mob — pillagers. Special cages may appear near this structure, where there's a certain chance an iron golem will spawn. Unlike regular villages, pillager outposts are a rarer occurrence, but they still appear more often than woodland mansions.

What can you find in this structure?

Chests full of various loot sit at the top of the tower. Up to 8 pillagers can inhabit this structure, including a captain carrying a banner that grants the "Bad Omen" effect.

Pillager

  • Has 24 ( × 12) health.
  • A hostile mob that attacks villages or the player.
  • There are two variants: with a banner and without. If the banner is picked up after the pillager dies, it grants the "Bad Omen" effect.
  • Spawns in a patrol of 3 pillagers, or in a pillager outpost.
  • May drop a crossbow when killed.

Crossbow Crossbow

  • Crafted from 2 string, three sticks, 1 iron ingot, and a tripwire hook.
  • Can be found in a pillager outpost.
  • Can fire fireworks if the crossbow is held in one hand and the firework rocket in the other.
  • Can be enchanted with Multishot, Quick Charge, or Piercing.

Pillager Patrol

Pillager patrol in Minecraft 1.14
Pillager patrols appear in groups of 5, one of whom is the patrol leader. They appear no less than 200 blocks from the nearest villages, in any Overworld biome except mushroom fields. Patrols start appearing 100 minutes after the start of the game (equivalent to 5 in-game days), and after that an attempt to create a new patrol is made every 10-11 minutes, with a 20% chance of success. If the attempt fails, the timer resets and the process starts over. The patrol leader always has a grey cap with a pillager face symbol on its head. If the player kills the leader, they receive the "Bad Omen" effect.

Village Raid

Village raid in Minecraft.png
A new in-game event in which waves of various mobs attack a village. To trigger this event, the player needs to enter a village while affected by "Bad Omen". The "Bad Omen" effect, gained by picking up a banner, can stack. Its level increases with each new pillager patrol leader killed by the player. Killing a patrol leader adds 1 to 5 levels of "Bad Omen", while killing an outpost captain always grants 1 level of the effect, if their banner is picked up.

Waves

A raid consists of several waves. As each wave is completed, the raid becomes more intense, with new and stronger mobs appearing. Pillagers, vindicators, evokers, witches, and ravagers can take part in a raid. When a wave of the raid is defeated, and nobody besides a witch is left, she drinks a potion of speed and tries to flee the village.

Ravager

  • Has 100 ( × 50) health.
  • A hostile mob that attacks villages or the player.
  • Only appears during a raid.
  • Pillagers, evokers, and witches can ride it.
  • Destroys tree leaves, farmland, blocks of melon, and blocks of pumpkin.
  • Drops a saddle when killed.

Bell Bell

  • Cannot be crafted.
  • Can be bought from an armorer, toolsmith, or weaponsmith.
  • Sways and rings when right-clicked.
  • Ringing the bell lets you see all nearby mobs taking part in the raid.
  • Villagers will ring the bell to warn others of a pillager attack.
  • Generates in villages.

With each new wave, the sound of a horn plays, signaling the approaching threat. This sound comes from a distance of 13 blocks and lets you tell which direction the attack will come from. In addition, while waiting for a wave to begin, a villager rings the bell, warning the village of the coming raid.

The number of waves depends on the chosen difficulty level: 3 on easy, 5 on normal, and 7 on hard. However, if the level of the "Bad Omen" effect reaches II or higher, one additional wave is added, bringing the total to four on easy, six on normal, and eight on hard. This extra wave is similar in strength and mob composition to the last wave of the chosen difficulty. The raid is considered won if you fend off all the waves, and lost if all the villagers die or all the beds in the village are destroyed.

Raid outcome

If you win the raid, the villagers thank the player with gifts once it's over. They give the player items related to their profession. After a villager gives the player a gift, some time must pass — from 30 seconds to 5 and a half minutes — before it can give another one. In case of defeat, you'll be left, at best, without beds, and at worst, without villagers.

Bamboo Jungle

Bamboo jungle in Minecraft 1.14

The Bamboo Jungle is a new variant of the jungle biome. It generates next to regular jungles. This biome consists mostly of bamboo and podzol.

What can you find in this biome?

The main inhabitant of this biome is the panda. But the same hostile and friendly mobs found in regular jungles also appear here.

Bamboo Bamboo

  • Can be planted and grows up to 12-16 blocks tall, growing very quickly.
  • Breaks instantly when cut with a sword.
  • Pandas eat it.
  • Two bamboo stalks can be crafted into a stick.
  • Can be used as furnace fuel.
  • Has a chance to drop from pandas when they're killed.
  • Can be fished up from bodies of water found in jungle biomes.

Scaffolding Scaffolding

  • Crafted from 6 bamboo and 1 string.
  • Cannot float in midair, but can be attached to other scaffolding. No more than 6 blocks can be attached horizontally. Unattached scaffolding is affected by gravity.
  • Breaking the bottom block breaks all the other scaffolding above it.
  • Lets you climb up and down quickly and easily by pressing the jump and sneak keys.

Panda

Pandas spawn in groups of 1-2 in bamboo jungles, on the surface of grass blocks with a light level of 9 or higher, and there must be at least two empty blocks of air above the grass block. A panda's main food is bamboo, but a panda can also eat cake. Pandas follow a player holding bamboo, but stop following if the player moves about 16 blocks away from them. They're also afraid of thunderstorms and will flee if one starts nearby. There are several types of pandas:

Normal pandas

  • Have 20 ( × 10) health.

Lazy pandas

  • Lie on their backs.
  • Don't follow a player holding bamboo while lying on their backs.‌
  • Slower than normal pandas.

Worried pandas

  • Avoid the player and most hostile mobs, except for slimes, magma cubes, ghasts, shulkers, phantoms, and the Ender Dragon.
  • Shiver and cover their faces with their paws during a thunderstorm.
  • Don't eat dropped bamboo or cake.

Playful pandas

  • Tumble and jump around even as adults. This ability can be dangerous or even deadly, since pandas can fall from great heights and take damage.

Aggressive pandas

  • If an aggressive panda takes damage, it will continuously attack the player and other mobs. It won't calm down until either the player or the other mob dies, or until the panda loses sight of them.
  • If other nearby pandas are attacked (except in cases where the attacker kills them in one hit), aggressive pandas will become hostile toward the attacker.
  • Aggressive pandas deal more damage than other pandas.

Weak pandas

  • Have only 10 ( × 5) health instead of 20 ( × 10) like other pandas. As babies, they sneeze more often than normal baby pandas.

Brown pandas

  • Have no unique individual behaviors, but have a brown-and-white coloring instead of black-and-white.

Breeding

The panda is an animal with special breeding requirements. To breed a pair of pandas, there must be at least eight bamboo blocks within a five-block radius of both of them. Once this condition is met, feeding the pandas bamboo causes them to mate, producing a baby. After this, the panda becomes friendly toward the player, rather than just neutral. If you feed a panda without enough bamboo nearby, it will sit down and eat it, but won't be ready to breed.

Fox

Fox in Minecraft 1.14

These furry creatures appear in the world in groups of 1-3, living mainly in snowy or regular taigas. If they spawn in a snowy taiga, they'll have a white coat, like little arctic foxes. Foxes prefer a nocturnal lifestyle, sleeping during the day. A fox looks for a spot with a sky light level of 14 or less and falls asleep there. Light-emitting blocks don't affect this process. If the player or mobs get close to a sleeping fox, it wakes up — however, if the player is sneaking, the fox won't wake up. They're able to move across terrain almost as fast as ocelots, and try to avoid encounters with players, wolves, and polar bears. If an item drops near a fox, it walks over and picks it up in its mouth.

Breeding

Sweet berries are the key ingredient in breeding these animals. If a white fox happens to breed with a red one, the chances of getting offspring of a particular color are 50/50. A newborn fox kit will trust you and won't run from you, but its primary attachment will remain with its parents. If the parents become afraid of you for some reason, the kit will follow their example. If a kit is separated from one of its parents, it will no longer try to return to it.

Attack

Foxes are predators that hunt chickens, rabbits, cod, salmon, and even baby turtles. Their keen sense of smell lets them detect prey from a distance of over 30 blocks, which in the real world could mean hundreds of meters. Foxes can jump over fences up to two blocks high, and can also climb trees. However, when a fox gets close to its prey, it slows down and then finally makes a swift pounce, striking the victim and dealing damage.

Interacting with items

If any item is lying on the ground near a fox, it picks it up. The item "ends up" in its mouth. A fox isn't limited to collecting food — it can pick up any item a player could pick up. However, a fox still prefers food. If it has already picked up an inedible item, it may drop it to pick up something edible instead. Any food it picks up (except cake) the fox eats. It's also affected by any effects the food may have, such as poison or teleportation. If a fox eats an enchanted golden apple, for example, it will get the absorption and regeneration effects from that apple.
